Emperors Palace has wrapped up yet another successful edition of its annual Garden of Lights, with proceeds from the 2018/2019 event amounting to an incredible R1.4 million. From the R1.4 million raised from tickets sales, R400 000 was donated to the Reach for a Dream foundation and R350 000 each was donated to the Peermont Childrens and Education Trusts. In celebration of the resort’s 20th birthday, a further R10 000 was donated to 20 worthy charities that were nominated by 20 Emperors Palace employees.
“This year, we welcomed over 100 000 excited children, mums, dads, couples, friends and family from across Gauteng, who came to see the dazzling array of lights at Emperors Palace,” says Clive Tavener, General Manager for Emperors Palace. “This amounted to R1.4 million in proceeds from ticket sales, which we have donated to charitable and educational causes for communities in need.”
The Garden of Lights is a magical event that lit up Gauteng skies over the festive season for the 11th consecutive year. It was created to spread merriment and festive cheer through spectacular light displays, colourful characters, fun fair rides and delicious food offerings, and took place in the perfectly manicured gardens of the five-star Peermont D’oreale Grande hotel at Emperors Palace.
“The Garden of Lights is our way of bringing back the days when mom and dad would bundle the whole family into the car to go and see the Christmas lights in town,” says Tavener. “Every year, we get to see the delighted smiles on the faces of children and parents alike, as they walk into gardens and experience the incredible light displays. Honestly, for us, there’s no better feeling than being able to bring people that kind of joy.”
Not only were families mesmerised by the spectacular lights display, children also had an opportunity to take pictures with Santa Claus, the Enchanted Fairy, Gift the Present, the Gingerbread Man, Frosty the Snowman, Santa’s Elves and Emperors Palace’s very own beautiful Garden Princess!
