Drama For Life will be hosting its 10th Drama for Life Conference and Festival ‘Transforming Arts | Transforming Lives’ from 28 November to 8 December at Wits University.
This unique initiative will feature a wide range of topics from trauma and gender, sexualities, the body politic to aesthetic disruptions, Africa and the reclamation of spirituality, children and theatre, youth theatre and sexual health as well as arts therapies for mental health and wellness.
The programme (attached) has been shaped to engage participants, audiences and presenters in an active, fresh and inspiring way.
Presenters and productions have been sourced from all over South Africa while DFL is honoured to announce significant contributions from Brazil, Botswana, Sweden, Nigeria, USA, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Canada.
Before delving into a myriad of presentations, workshops, discussion forums and drama performances, delegates are given the opportunity to start the day with motivating wellness and reflection sessions.
The daily keynote addresses will be delivered by dynamic womxn who are leading voices in changing our way of thinking and feeling about who we are as humans through, in and about the arts.
The Arts in Conversation Series, curated in partnership with DFL’s key stakeholders and leading arts organisations, is but one of the many highlights of this exceptional Conference and festival that will enhance the knowledge-base and experience of artists, community artists, arts healers and arts therapists, arts and cultural leaders and managers, arts educators, arts academics and arts researchers, and arts activists.
The festival-leg presents a host of cutting-edge productions by established as well as young and upcoming producers while premiering Pina, an interdisciplinary work by Drama for Life artist in residence Kwanele Finch Thusi and Eclipsed, a new play by Tlotlego Gaogakwe and Warren Nebe, performed by the Drama for Life Theatre Company.
In addition to the above, Drama for Life is hosting three significant moments: the official opening of the 10th Drama for Life Conference and Festival (28/11), a donor and partner lunch (29/11) and a 10thbirthday celebration for Drama for Life (01/12).
This initiative is supported by SA Tourism, Embassy of Sweden, BASA, RMB, Embassy of Brazil, Wits University, AHF, Wits School of the Arts, CTAOP and Wits theatre.
