Grab Your Nando’s Passport and Explore

South Africa breathed a collective sigh of relief when the Department of Health dropped all remaining COVID-19 restrictions. It means no more masks in public, which in turn means no more dealing with steamed up glasses. The lifting of the remaining regulations also signifies that stadiums can now go back to hosting games with 100% capacity, as well as being able to take a trip to explore the beauty and diversity of the rest of the world.

We are reminded that improving the quality of life for all South Africans forms part of our Constitution – and it is with the preamble in mind that we focus on rebuilding the economy through tourism and the hospitality industry, to benefit its people. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Constitution and revel in this milestone, South Africa’s most loved flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken restaurant, Nando’s is inviting Mzansi to make their tables bigger.

Make The Table Bigger is an open invitation to Mzansi to venture out of their comfort zones and explore tables outside their regular haunts. Take a trip to Constitution Hill in Johannesburg and see the Flame of Democracy – a perpetual flame symbolising the right to a life free from oppression and injustice. Perhaps take a visit to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in KwaZulu-Natal or The Kingdom of Mapungubwe – a UNESCO Heritage Site in Limpopo which holds incredible archaeological history from the 11th century.

There is so much more to Gauteng than the potholes and constant electricity “Mgowo”, Nando’s hosted an adrenaline-pumping Passport Chase with media, influencers, and friends of the brand, as they traversed some iconic spots. The day was so thrilling that 39 litres of water was consumed to keep the contestants refreshed. Not forgetting the total distance of 178 km travelled on the day to a variety of locations including Constitutional Hill, Soweto Towers, Lesedi Cultural Village and our restaurants in between. The chase highlighted the wonderful diversity and rich history of the province – a journey all South Africans should experience at least once within their provinces and beyond.

Nontobeko Sibiya, Marketing Manager: Communications at Nando’s, says that celebrating South Africa’s diversity is instrumental to the progression of the country, and it is for this reason that Nando’s launched the Make The Table Bigger campaign.

“For us to legitimately celebrate our diversity, we must look beyond our immediate spaces where we visit the same places and get stuck in a routine. We wanted to incentivise South Africans to venture out, explore and have fun doing so. We encourage people to enjoy a change of scenery and experience the country and its people for what it is – an incredible melting pot.”

The campaign calls on the people of South Ahh to get a Nando’s passport and collect stamps from as many Nando’s restaurants as they can. In addition to exploring new spaces, once you’ve collected all the stamps, you stand a chance of winning a trip to Nando’s in the USA. All you have to do is download the Nando’s app, get your Nando’s passport, scan the QR code at the restaurant to redeem the stamp. And then dust off those passports because ‘Merica is calling!

This campaign is inspired by the very concept of people and togetherness. We encourage the people of South Ahh to join Nando’s and Make the table bigger and in so doing, stand a chance to experience something new and wonderful.
