Constitution Hill goes virtual to guide visitors

While Constitution Hill has announced the postponement of all programmes and events, guided tours will still be possible with the assistance of a virtual guide. This in in line with the National State of Disaster in South Africa to curb the spread of Corona virus (COVID-19) through social distancing.

“This was a very difficult decision to make but the safety and well-being of our staff, and visitors is always our highest priority,” says Chief Experience Officer Dawn Robertson.

All museums and venues will, however, remain open during regular business hours and visitors can tour the historic Constitution Hill precinct with the help of a virtual guide. “It is available from the iOS App Store and Google Play. The app also allows you to take a tour outside regular operating hours and provides additional information about the precinct’s various sites,” says Heritage and Public Programs Manager Mr Reuben Phasha.

Constitution Hill says it has also implemented extra precautionary measures to disinfect spaces throughout the day. Public areas are already cleaned daily, but we have increased the frequency of cleaning high-touch and high-traffic areas such as entryways, handrails, etc and are providing additional hand sanitisers at all locations. Senior leadership is meeting regularly to review recommendations and adjust our policies and processes as the situation evolves.

The Constitution Hill Team requests that visitors who are experiencing flu-like symptoms, or are not well, rather visit the centre when they have recovered. Janine Muthusamy – Marketing and Communications Manager says: “We are mindful of concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and are committed to being responsive. We are monitoring the evolving situation closely and will announce any further programme or operational changes through our regular channels, including our website and social media. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
