South African cricketer, Temba Bavuma is not only showcasing his leadership skills on the pitch but he is also leading by example during the national lockdown. Through his foundation, the Proteas Batsman has been lending a helping hand to those who are less fortunate. “The foundation got involved with an initiative in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, distributing food parcels to 50 or so families in the area,” said Bavuma.
Established in 2016, the Temba Bavuma Foundation aims to facilitate the emergence and development of future sporting talents from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. From a social transformation perspective, the organization seeks to provide educational access to young people. Earlier this year, the Temba Bavuma Foundation in partnership with PPC, handed over a new cricket pitch and nets at Bosmont Primary School.
“The lockdown has been challenging for us as a country and the people hit hardest are those living in the township. As a foundation, we can’t be ignorant of the reality of our country at the moment and it was our way of playing our part. We’ll be doing something similar in Cape Town in the coming week,” concluded Bavuma.
