South Africans invited to bake a difference for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and those looking to bake a difference are invited to take part in the Cupcakes of Hope #Bake4Cancer fundraiser this month. Built on the foundation of love and hope, sweetened by kindness and frosted with community, care and compassion, the Cupcakes of Hope non-profit organisation aims to get 3 000 bakers to register, and help them raise funds in order to reach their target of R3 million this month.

While Childhood Cancer is a difficult journey, Cupcakes of Hope offers a light-hearted, fun and rewarding way to help children and families in need. Volunteers, fondly known as Cupcakes Angels, are between the ages of 3 and 90 years old, and generously offer their time to bake a difference. Any recipe can be used as long as the baked goods are made with love.

Hosting a #Bake4Cancer fundraiser is a wonderful way to bring family, friends and colleagues together for a good cause. From school fundraisers to pop-up shops, neighbourhood cake sales to innovative and creative corporate team building activities – every little bit counts, and it really is the sweetest way to save a life.

The funds raised enable will enable Cupcakes of Hope to continue the much needed support they provide to 120 children and their families every month. This includes covering their medical bills and other essential needs, from nappies to nutrition and every in between. In August, Cupcakes of Hope registered 29 new patients, with the youngest being only 10 months old. A total of 137 patients and their families were assisted financially, and 450 activity packs were delivered to all 20 Paediatric Oncology wards across South Africa.

When registering as a Cupcake Angel, bakers will receive a complimentary Angel Pack, complete which includes a #Bake4Cancer apron, information leaflets, cupcake holders, a recipe card and balloons. Participants need only cover the national courier cost of R120 to have the pack delivered to their homes.

Additionally, a celebrity virtual bake-along will take place on Saturday 25th September 2021 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Cupcake Angel and media personality Taryn Louch will be joined by Celebrity Chef Ben Ungermann of Masterchef Australia fame, and radio and television personality, Leigh-Anne Williams. The bake-along can be joined on the Cupcakes of Hope Facebook and Instagram pages.

It’s almost time for the sweetest day of the year, 25 September 2021, also known as National Cupcake Day. You can bake a or difference, or for those who prefer to show their support by eating instead, please visit the Cupcakes of Hope website to check where you can buy a cupcake to enjoy.
