Silverstar Casino, has installed a new crash barrier on the R28 highway, outside its entrance, to alleviate an extremely unsafe situation for commuters.
According to Silverstar Complex Surveillance and Security Manager, Fouche Viljoen, crash barriers were previously installed by Silverstar and by Gautrans. Unfortunately, a recent accident destroyed the old barriers and local authorities indicated that they had no funds to install a replacement barrier. Viljoen said: “We felt that this was an extremely unsafe situation for commuters and wanted to ensure that if there is another collision, the impact is minimised.” The new crash barrier was installed on the R28 outside Silverstar on Tuesday, 11 February 2020.
Additionally , late last year, Silverstar installed solar road studs that are static and flash on the island at the entrance to the property. These studs are especially visible at night, and of course, during loadshedding. They act as a visible warning from afar and even provide passing traffic with a much-needed landmark at night. Viljoen concluded: “Silverstar is concerned about the wellbeing of their guests. This is evidenced by the lengths we are prepared to go to minimise areas of concern when it comes to safety in and around Silverstar.”
