Get a free Shweshwe fabric tampon pouch, handmade by the women of Baroka Basadi, when you purchase a specially-marked 32-pack of non-applicator Lil-Lets tampons.
From the beginning of 2022, you’ll find an authentic, locally-made Shweshwe fabric pouch in every specially-marked 32-pack of non-applicator Lil-Lets tampons. The pouch fits five non-applicator tampons and is perfect to pop in your bag when you’re on the go.
The 350 000 pouches were hand-stitched by an all-women team of seamstresses that operate under the Baroka Basadi (translated “ladies who sew”) project. This enabling platform supports women to start their own micro-businesses with mentorship and small business assistance tools. The fabric used is proudly sourced locally from Da Gama textiles in Qonce (formerly King Williamstown).
“Our aim was not only to give our tampon users something special, but to use the opportunity to support a project that does the type of empowerment work Lil-Lets stands by,” says Lil-Lets Marketing Executive for Global HPC, Keryn Brien.
Since 2021, Lil-Lets has run a community-driven, free online platform called Lil-Lets Talk focused on shared experience and expert advice on periods and more. Their ‘Ask One, We Donate One’ drive matches every question and answer posted on the platform with a donation of a pack of Lil-Lets Maxi pads to those in need. So far Lil-lets have donated over 42 thousand pads to beneficiaries.
You can join the Lil-Lets Talk community now (www.lil-letstalk.co.za) and ask a question or share your experiences to help fight stigma and generate more product donations for those in need. You can also nominate an organisation or charity in your community to become a Lil-Lets Talk beneficiary here: https://www.lil-lets.com/…/nominate-your-organisation/
The specially marked Lil-Lets tampon packs containing the free Shweshwe pouches are available in select stores while stocks last.
