Following the past weekâs devastating weather conditions, the Jacaranda FM talent and the Good Morning Angels recently headed to Laerskool Protearif in Krugersdorp to embark on some much needed damage control.
Laerskool Protearif was one of two schools in Krugersdorp that closed due to structural damage from the recent storms in Krugersdorp and other parts of Gauteng. Jacaranda FM listeners, through the Good Morning Angels platform joined hands to assist in refurbishing the school on Wednesday morning.
The top level of the schoolsâ double story building was destroyed, leaving heaps of rubble that used to be classrooms. Roofs had blown off, trees had fallen on surrounding structuresâ and the downstairs classrooms were flooded.
The Jacaranda FM angel community heard the plea through Good Morning Angels and contributed R540 000 in cash pledges and another R50Â 000 worth of cash donations were made directly into the schoolâs bank account, so far. In addition, R552Â 500 was donated in goods and services towards structural refurbishment for the school. This comes to R1 142Â 500.
On top of this, all the bricks, roof, sheeting, windows and glass required was donated, as well as            comprehensive project management, specialist services and labour for the re-build with the commitment that all work will be completed in time for the school to re-open in January 2018.
A fund-raising concert âAfter the Stormâ will also be held at the Keywest Shopping Centre on the weekend of 25 November and the projected funds anticipated total about R300Â 000.
If all parties adhere to their pledges and commitments, the total of all donations, goods and services will come to about R2 million.
In addition, another R55 000 cash and R100 000 paint was donated to the nearby Laerskool Muldersdrift – which also suffered damage.
Amongst those who took an active role in supporting this Good Morning Angels initiative, was General Manager of Jacaranda FM, Kevin Fine whose passion for community upliftment was evident. Education and early childhood development are also close to Fineâs heart.
âPreserving learner dignity by ensuring that their learning environment does not impede on their right to education is very important for us as Jacaranda FM,â shares Minisha Patel, Marketing Manager at Jacaranda FM. âOur listeners are always willing to go the extra mile to assist those in need, in kind or in monetary value; and as their radio station of choice, we pride ourselves in knowing that our listeners are always quick to support such worthy causes.â
