Empowering a woman to empower a nation

If you empower a woman, you can change the world according to Philanthropist and humanitarian Oprah Winfrey.

Green Coffee Cares took it upon themselves to identify women who require skills and employment at the New Beginnings Foundation based in Boksburg. The women have been given opportunities to work hand in hand with the innovative plan to sustain the environment.

The women are taught how to dry coffee grounds and soon will be taught how to package products that will be nurturing the environment. South Africa has a high unemployment rate and the people who suffer the most are women and children. A lot of entities avoid employing women due to their dependants. Green Coffee aims to change the stigma attached to corporate South Africa for employing women.

The women from New Beginnings come from impoverished backgrounds while some of them were in rehabilitation meaning they felt like they were excluded from the entire society.

One of the employee’s Gloria is a victim of the natural disaster that occurred at Port Shepstone.

She explains she lost all her valuables and shelter thus had to relocate and start over her life.

“Green Coffee is definitely an initiative that we appreciate as now we can afford to provide for our families and have a sustainable future”.

New Beginnings is a registered non-profit organization that addresses the needs of the disadvantaged. They were founded in 1999 and are closely affiliated with Correctional Services, Boksburg Child Welfare, SANCA, Local Schools, Department of Education and the Labour Department to mention but a few.

The Centre is occupied by one thousand and four hundred people who are housed and fed. Education is provided for the children at an onsite Crèche, which currently has a hundred and eighty children in attendance. Ages range from zero months to pre-Grade R. Once the children are school-ready, they are enrolled in the local schools and their progress is monitored by trained facilitators.
