Trinityhouse school hosts successful fundraising gala dinner for Kingsway Christian School

On Saturday the 8^th of September 2019, Trinityhouse hosted a fundraising gala dinner at Capsicum culinary school as part of a fundraising initiative for Kingsway Christian School – a subsidized independent school located at Randpark Ridge. Tozi Buthelezi, a teacher of isiZulu at Trinityhouse planned the event with a team of dedicated staff.

The Trinityhouse Headmaster, Hilton Scott welcomed guests, and thanked his staff, and community members for their generous donations and sponsorships. He said, “It’s blessed to give, but it is in giving that you will receive”.

School principal of Kingway Christian School, Kgethi Dlamini said, “The community of Trinity House have done so much for us as a community. This evening is a point where beauty, generosity, and love all come together”.

Dlamini mentioned how the event was planned last year soon after the government announced that they would no longer be able to subsidize Kingsway. She explained that until that point, Kingsway had been long-standing recipients of a 60% subsidy for the school from the government.

Scott contacted Dlamini after the news broke and offered support from Trinityhouse. Dlamini said, “I would like to thank all of you on behalf of my learners. They cannot believe that there is so much love in our community. You have taught them to give wherever they can”.

Kagiso Motepe, the evening’s keynote speaker started the address by observing a moment of silence for those who have fallen as a result of gender-based violence. He afterward spoke to guests about the undervalued importance of an involved community. He said, “A community has the responsibility to educate its youth – whether or not you have a child”.

Motepe mentioned the importance of business collaboration with schools in their communities as well as the need for an acute awareness of those who are privileged about the harsh realities the less fortunate in our society face just to receive an education.  He highlighted the need for school twinning initiatives whereby schools with different resources have partnered up to assist one another , where one is lacking. He further explained that this initiative had already been started in Gauteng, but it needed to grow to other parts of the country. He concluded his speech by saying, “If we want to see South Africa being an equal society, we need to have an interest in education”.
