Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle formally stepped down as senior members of the British royal family on the 31st of March 2020 and are now based in the United States. The decision means they will no longer carry out duties on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II and are giving up their office within the monarchy in Britain.
They have proposed a list of projects under the name Archewell to replace their previous “Sussex Royal” brand. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in the process of launching a wide-ranging non-profit organization called Archewell. The new name is derived from the Greek word Arche, meaning “source of action”.
The charitable organization will include emotional support groups, a multimedia educational empire and a wellbeing website among other things. They said they wanted “to do something of meaning, to do something that matters,” said the couple.
They have delayed releasing full details about it because of the coronavirus pandemic but they will make an announcement “when the time is right”. The couple relocated to California last month after announcing in January that they intended to quit royal life and “work to become financially independent”.
