In honour of National Reading Day on 24th January 2020, WKBW employees will distribute thousands of books and volunteer at a book fair at Woodrow Wilson Elementary. The news channel has planned another book fair at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary on Friday,24th January 2020.
National Reading Day is celebrated in thousands of schools all around the United States where they encourage young children to read.
Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary Schools will receive a total of 260 books for classroom use. In addition, each of the schools’ approximately 880 children will receive a book of their own to take home. The employees at WKBW raised $4,559.36 in August 2019 to buy books for the schools and their students.
The students will be receiving the books through the “If You Give a Child a Book campaign presented by Scripps Howard Foundation. The Scripps Howard Foundation is the philanthropic arm of The E.W. Scripps Company which supports life-changing community programs and journalists who inform and engage with the public through partnerships and storytelling, the foundation mobilizes communities around key issues, focusing on childhood literacy.
