Earlier this month, Springbok Captain Siya Kolisi and fellow Rugby World Cup winners Damian Willemse and Herschel Jantjies delivered food parcels inspired by Peakview High School pupils in Athlone, in the Cape Flats.
Accompanied by Blitzboks and Imbokodo captains Siviwe Soyizwapi and Zintle Mpupha, along with representatives from Gift of the Givers, they also used the opportunity to challenge schools across South Africa to get involved in SA Rugby’s #StrongerTogether for R32-12 campaign.
The relief campaign will see the Springboks assisting with hunger alleviation. In addition, Food Forward SA will also be benefiting from the campaign. The campaign is named after the score by which the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup final against England.
The school which sells the most tickets in a raffle as part of the campaign will win a “visit” by the iconic Webb Ellis Cup, which the Boks claimed in the Rugby World Cup final in Japan in 2019. Willemse said: “The #StrongerTogether for R32-12 campaign is nearing its end and we would like to encourage people to buy a raffle ticket for only R32.12 to win one of those amazing prizes up for grabs.”
Other prizes include Cheslin Kolbe’s scrum cap, Faf de Klerk’s SA flag underwear, Rassie Erasmus’s lucky white shirt and talk to raise funds for the winner’s charity of choice, a personalized RWC Trophy Tour to the house of one lucky winner, and Duane Vermeulen’s World Cup training jersey.
Gilbert, official ball supplier to the 2019 Rugby World Cup and SA Rugby, have added a limited-edition replica World Cup final ball for every winner. ASICS, the official apparel sponsor of the Boks and SA Rugby, have contributed commemorative World Cup GEL-LYTE III sneakers and a new Springbok jersey.
Jantjies’s prize includes a World Cup match jersey and “Champions” cap. “It felt good to “give back” to the community, and urged the public to buy raffle tickets before the end of the campaign early this week,” he said.
“We know that your very important school year was severely disrupted by the coronavirus and that your communities are suffering because of the negative impact. However, it is important that you show determination to finish your academic year and I want to urge you to work so much harder and just give it your best,” said Kolisi.
“Our Rugby World Cup win of last year was the result of a lot of hard work, teamwork and effort, so you must approach your studies and exams with just as much determination. You are the leaders of tomorrow and even though it is tough at the moment, persevere and do your best to prepare as much as you can for your exams, “he concluded.
