Academic excellence rewarded

The top Grade 12 achievers, from fifteen local high schools in the Maquassi Hills community, 
have received recognition and been awarded for their academic results.  Gathering at a prize-giving of Grade 12 Best Performer Excellence Awards, which recently took place at the North 
West Secondary School for the Deaf, in Leeudoringstad, each learner received a laptop. 
This excellence programme was funded by Bokamoso Solar in partnership with the Department of 
Education for Matlosana and Maquassi Hills.  As part of the solar project’s economic development programme, the purpose of this awards event was to stimulate and honour the academic achievements of Matriculates, in schools in the local community.  
Additionally, the three educators were also recognised and awarded, each receiving e-tablets. 
We recognise and acknowledge that the matric class of 2020 had to manage unprecedented 
levels of stress and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, on top of the usual stress of 
preparing for and writing their final school exams,” explained Tshepo Kgoloane, Community 
Operations Manager for Bokamoso Solar, the award’s benefactor. 
The schools in this excellence programme include Boskuil Combined School, Gatelapele Secondary 
School, Leruntse Lesedi Secondary School, Maitemogelo Secondary School, Ntlatseng Combined 
School; Reabona Secondary School; Tiragalo Secondary School; Hoer Skool Wolmaransstad; 
Kanana Secondary School; Mmokeng Secondary School; Tsebedisano Secondary School; 
Thuto-Tsebo Secondary School; Matlhalenga Secondary School; Vaal Reefs Technical High; and 
Leruntse Lesedi Secondary School. 
This programme funding forms part of Bokamoso Solar’s Socio-Economic Development, which benefits a large number of communities, spread within a 50km radius of the project site. The 
the programme includes a focus on education, youth development, health, food security and welfare.
