The popular Next Generation musical showcase has long been a highlight on the school calendar in the Mitchells Plain area, attracting talented students to showcase their dancing, singing, musical, rap and other talents, in order to win funds for their schools. This year, the competition has attracted a record number of 18 primary, high and special needs schools who will take to the stage in the Liberty Promenade Mall on Saturday, 15 October 2022.
Participating schools stand in line to win their share of R60 000 of cash for their schools. This can be used to upgrade facilities or buy educational resources. Furthermore, selected participating learners and teachers will receive additional prizes. This campaign, proudly presented by Liberty Promenade, is now in its eleventh year, as part of the mall’s social responsibility initiatives.
Each year, the Next Generation musical showcase features a different theme, designed to inspire learners to think optimistically and creatively. The theme for 2022 is “The values one can learn from the game of soccer” which has to be incorporated into the performance. Learners are encouraged to highlight what stands out to them about the sport and what they believe soccer has taught us. Learners may incorporate creative elements such as, highlighting soccer champions or referencing epic moments in Soccer history. There are no rules regarding creativity, except that it needs to connect to the theme.
At the live event on 15 October, a panel of judges will select the top performing schools based on the entry criteria. The winning primary and high schools will receive R20 000 cash and runner-up primary and high schools will win R 10 000 cash.
The competition was open to all schools in Mitchells Plain including primary schools, high schools and schools catering for learners with special needs. Schools look forward to this competition every year as the cash prizes are put to much-needed use.
The 18 participating schools are: AZ Berman High, Beacon School for LSEN, Caradale Primary, Cascade Primary, Eastville Primary, Eisleben Road Primary, Lentegeur School for LSEN, Lentegeur Secondary, Liesbeeck Primary, Littlewood Primary, Montagu Drive Primary, Oval North High, Portland High, Rocklands Secondary, Spine Road High, Wavecrest Primary, West End Primary and Yellowwood Primary Schools.
