Yum! Brands, KFC award $6 million to advance equity, opportunity

Yum! Brands and KFC U.S. have announced grants totaling $6 million in support of efforts to advance equity and opportunity in Louisville, Kentucky.

Part of a five-year, $100 million global commitment announced by Yum! in June, the commitments will support local initiatives in the areas of entrepreneurship, education, and equity and inclusion. Grant recipients include the Academy of Music Production Education and Development, which is expanding its programming in technology skills, workforce development, and business creation in the West Louisville neighborhood; the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, which will establish a fund to provide grants to Black entrepreneurs and nonprofits working to expand economic opportunity in West Louisville; Simmons College of Kentucky, a historically black college that is developing a program designed to recruit more African-American teachers for the Jefferson County Public Schools system; Evolve502, which helps JCPS students pursuing a postsecondary degree or certificate with scholarships and other supports; and a business, technology, and leadership development program being piloted by the University of Louisville that helps Pell Grant-eligible high school students earn college credits from and early admission to the university.

In addition, Black L.O.V.E., a nonprofit working to strengthen Black-led social institutions in the city, will work with philanthropic partners to increase investment in areas recommended by the Black Social Change Funders Network.
