Backing Kimberley’s Art and Tourism

A bold new mural at Flamingo Casino is turning heads along the N12 in Kimberley, marking the start of a creative partnership with local non-profit Trailblaze Travels aimed at uplifting the city’s tourism and arts sector.

Covering 19m², the eye-catching artwork was created by Trailblaze Travels, a grassroots organisation committed to developing and sustaining the tourism, culture, and art industries across the Northern Cape and beyond—starting right in their hometown.

“We had been looking for someone for a while now and saw some of Trailblaze Travels’ work in town,” said Johann De Lange, Gaming Manager at Flamingo Casino. “We made contact, and their designs were extraordinary.”

Trailblaze Travels recently gained attention with its first major initiative, the Kimberley Mural Series, which highlighted local heritage and talent through public art installations.

“Through arts, media, and business support, we aim to uplift and empower our communities,” said Joshua Rolse, founder of Trailblaze Travels. “Our platform serves as a hub for young talents to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals, and access vital resources.”

He added, “Whether through exhibitions, workshops, or creative projects, we believe in the power of art and entrepreneurship to build sustainable futures.”

This vision closely aligns with Flamingo Casino’s commitment to local development. “We are pleased to support this NGO and its goals,” said De Lange.

Both parties hope the mural marks the beginning of a lasting relationship. “Trailblaze aims to forge a long-term partnership with Flamingo Casino and to paint many more murals for them,” said Rolse. “We have several ideas for the entire establishment and look forward to sharing proposals soon.”

In addition to the mural, Flamingo Casino has undertaken a range of upgrades this year, including new chandelier lamp covers, updated table layouts, and a switch to LED lighting on its iconic pylon sign—demonstrating a continued focus on keeping the property vibrant and welcoming.

This collaboration reflects a growing recognition of how creativity and community investment can go hand-in-hand in driving tourism and local pride in Kimberley.
