On 26 August, Restonic South Africa donated 13 beds to Bosmont GVB Healing Centre in Johannesburg, a shelter for survivors of domestic violence and child abuse that offers essential resources including counselling and legal assistance.
Restonic was contacted by City of Johannesburg Ward Councillor, Sara Wissler, herself a survivor of gender-based violence. “As a survivor of domestic violence and child abuse, I know first-hand the importance of having a safe space and a supportive community during times of crisis,” she says. “Supporting this initiative as a councillor for the City of Johannesburg allows me to give back to a cause that is deeply personal to me. It’s not just about helping those in immediate need, but also about raising awareness and breaking the cycle of abuse in our community. Mandy, who runs the home recently lost her daughter to domestic violence. Her boyfriend doused her and her friend with petrol and set them alight and both succumbed to their injuries.”
Wissler encourages individuals to consider supporting survivors within their communities. “Together, we can create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone, and ensure that those who have suffered from abuse can find the strength and resources they need to rebuild their lives,” she says. “Individuals can donate directly, volunteer their time, or contribute needed items like clothing, food, and personal care products to The Healing Centre.”
Wissler expresses sincere gratitude to Restonic for the donation of beds and pillows, noting that this will directly enhance the comfort and safety of the survivors staying at the shelter. “Quality sleep is crucial for physical and mental recovery, and by providing mattresses and bedding, Restonic is contributing to the healing process in a very tangible way,” she says. “This kind of support not only improves the daily lives of those at the shelter but also sends a powerful message that these individuals are valued and deserving of care and comfort.”
