Initiative to boost Small Business Productivity in Cape Town

The City of Cape Town’s Economic Growth Directorate has renewed its partnership with Productivity South Africa to continue the highly successful Productivity Efficiency Programme. This initiative, a priority for Alderman James Vos, the Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, aims to enhance business performance, increase profitability, and create more jobs, ultimately boosting local consumption and exports.

Building on the success of the 2022 programme, the Productivity Efficiency Programme will again support small businesses in Cape Town, particularly those with 15 to 100 employees, by improving their productivity and operational efficiency.

‘The objective of this programme is to assist organisations by creating a mechanism to proactively address the challenges they face, preventing potential liquidation, closure, or job losses. Also, we constantly engage with our business network to understand their immediate needs and guide them towards the appropriate government support,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos.

Alderman Vos recently visited some of the beneficiaries of the programme, including Jemaha in Killarney, C.O Designs in Goodwood, Alligator in Epping, and Vashto Flowers in Bellville. The programme sustains 19 SMMEs which in total employ 497 Capetonians.

‘Through our business support programme facilitated by Productivity SA, we continue to help businesses, such as these listed above, become more competitive and productive by reviewing and enhancing their internal operations,’ said Alderman Vos.
