School uniforms donated to 18 local schools

Over 300 community learners across 18 primary and high schools within the Witzenberg Local Municipality area have received a donation of much-needed school uniforms. Funded by Perdekraal East Wind Farm, this project seeks to empower learners by fostering a sense of unity and equality within the schools, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits without any added burden.

“The generous donation of school uniforms from Perdekraal East Wind Farm to our school has been truly appreciated. Our learners come from a very poor community in the Ceres Karoo area and this donation has lifted a heavy burden from the parents, and we can see the joy and pride on our learners’ faces,” said Mr. John Franse, Principal of Matjiesrivier NGK Primary, one of the beneficiary schools.

Working in collaboration with school principals, the wind farm identified the learners in need of school uniforms, ensuring that the support reaches those who will benefit the most. As part of the project, each learner received a full school uniform including shoes.

“We recognise that education plays a crucial role in empowering individuals and communities. As such, supporting schools is one of our focus areas, encompassing academic, sports, and social initiatives,” said Gwynne-Lee Borcherds Economic Development Manager for Perdekraal East Wind Farm.

She added, “As most of the parents in our beneficiary areas rely on social grants, we identified the need to support these learners, ensuring that they feel included.”

The wind farm’s commitment to supporting the education sector through initiatives like this has made a significant difference not only for the learners and schools but also for the parents in the community. By empowering learners with proper school uniforms, Perdekraal East Wind Farm aims to enhance their educational experience and provide opportunities for a brighter future.
