CEO launches book about 10 entrepreneurs who were affected by looting

On the 26th of January,Social entrepreneur,philanthropist and CEO of Rhiza Holdings,Alef Meulenburg launched his first book titled The Overcomers.The book focuses on stories on stories and lessons from Entrepreneurs across South Africa who were affected by looting back in 2021.

Meulenburg travelled into the heart of townships like Alexandra and deep rural settings of Kwa-Zulu Natal to follow 10 entrepreneurs.In the book he tells stories of how they started their businesses from nothing, how they recovered from devastation and their plans to grow their businesses going forward.

“I wrote this book because I wanted to capture the thousands of usung hero’s who had to pick up the pieces of their businesses following the natural disasters, economic turmoil of looting”Furthermore,I also wanted to showcase the amazing work done by local businesses and assist them to rebuild their businesses”.

We spoke to one of the entrepreneurs who was featured in the book,Gift Sedibeng who owns The Mexikasi in Alexandra,Johannesburg.After doing research Sedibeng realised that there weren’t many Mexican restaurants in SA hence he decided to open a restaurant which specialises in Mexican dishes in the township.

“Following the looting,I was able to continue with my business because I didn’t give-up and for that reason I consider my self an overcomer.Had I gave up on my business,I wouldn’t be where I am right now.I feel like this is just the beginning” said Sedibeng .He also spoke about his partnesrship with Youth Employment Service where they are empowering and ups killing young people in township who are passionate about cooking.
