The country’s oldest beer, Castle Lager has launched the #KeepitWithin campaign, the second campaign in the #ItsWithin series which is aimed at celebrating the good that lies within our communities.
According to Castle Lager Brand Director, Wendy Bedforth “The new campaign is all bout celebrating the good things that are happening in our communities. One of the good things that contribute to the South African community are small businesses”.She highlighted that as a brand, they want to see small businesses in townships grow and create jobs.
South Africa’s townships are well known for their entrepreneurial spirit despite the many hurdles township entrepreneurs face. With that being said small and local businesses have more community impact hence the local brand unveiled the limited edition 500ml cans, which are designed to profile and support local businesses for the duration of this campaign.
Castle will profile 16 businesses quarterly and they will be giving them marketing support through the selected cans, website, and social media. The 16 businesses will be trained in different aspects of business, through the partnership with MyDow and one business per quarter will stand a chance to win R40 000 towards their business.
2 of 16 business owners joined us at the launch of the campaign. Lindiwe Nkuna who owns Lindiwe Sanitary Pads and Aubrey Kota, founder of Aubtech Kitchens. They shared their entrepreneurial journeys with the crowd.
MC of the event, Clement Manyathela also had a Q & session with some of South Africa’s favorite entrepreneurs. The list of speakers included the founder and Director of DRIP Footwear, Lekau Sehoana who had to make the most out of what he had, which sparked innovation and creativity.
Sehoana said it was important for him to support the Castle lager #KeepitWithin campaign because it resonated with his story but moreover he was moved by the fact that the campaign supports small businesses in townships.
“We usually see corporates going into townships in an effort to make money but with this campaign, they are changing the status- quo by making sure that they are plowing back into township communities”. He mentioned that he loves the fact that Castle Larger is investing in businesses that will in turn create jobs for the community.
By 2023, Castle Lager aims to grow 50 Kasi businesses by 10 % by the end of the year. Bedforth explained that they plan to achieve this goal by committing R35 million towards building and assisting small businesses across South African townships.
