Meropa donates sanitizer to help schools stay safe

Meropa Casino and Entertainment World in Polokwane recently donated over 1,000 litres of sanitizer valued at R40,000 to three schools in the area to help safeguard educators and learners.

Meropa donated 15 x 25 litre containers of sanitizer to each of the schools, which included Westenburg Secondary School in Polokwane, as well as to Toronto Primary School in nearby Mankweng, and the Grace and Hope Special School in Seshego.

Toronto Primary deputy principal Anna Magoro said: “We really appreciate the donation, and this provides us with an essential weapon in the fight against Covid and any other opportunistic infections. It also helps to engender a culture of cleanliness and good daily hygiene practices.”

Meropa General Manager Sammy Mokhele said the Casino saw the donation of sanitizer as a worthy investment as “there is a great need for sanitizers at local schools and we want the education of our children to take place in safe and secure environments in order to optimize teaching and learning”.

“We hope that by providing this supply of sanitizers this will help ease the strain on teachers and enable them to focus better on their core functions as valued educators,” Mokhele said.

He added that while the number of daily Covid-19 infections in the country had dropped significantly, “we want to encourage all residents and communities to continue to adhere to safe hygiene practices such as regular washing or sanitizing of hands and wearing of masks”.
