On the 1st of September 2020, Radio Presenter Eon Engelbrecht launched eRadio South Africa on the scenic Garden Route. Overwhelmed by all the bad news (âand bad musicâ) on mainstream media during the lockdown, Engelbrecht decided to set up an online radio station that would focus on the bright side of life.
â2020 was a year of inevitable change and it took a pandemic to show us that. I know so many people who were forced into new jobs, new homes, new ways of doing things and embracing it. eRadio is all about positivityâ said Engelbrecht, who, after nearly a decade on local radio, was itching to start something new.
eRadio is a licensed, privately owned digital radio station that will broadcast music-driven programmes and feature regular contributors from around South Africa and the globe. The online radio station introduces listeners to new artists every week and conduct interviews with interesting people. He notes that he deliberately chose the 1st of September to launch âas spring is the time for new beginningsâ.
Engelbrecht said the content will offer âthe best in music from the 1980s, 90s and today that will change the world one song at a time.eRadio will shy away from hard news unless it is absolutely crucial and in the public interest. We donât do politics,â Engelbrecht noted. And weâll try to avoid words like âpandemicâ, âload sheddingâ, âkopdoekâ, âcoronaâ and âlockdownââ.
The online station is available 24/7 at www.eradiosa.com and on various streaming platforms. Content is also available as podcasts on the website and app for those who had missed it. eRadio broadcasts from a private studio on the Garden Route and will operate like any other terrestrial or internet station by deriving its income solely from advertising and sponsorship.
