Springbok wind farm supports community health sector

Kangnas Wind Farm is supporting the Dr Van Niekerk Hospital, in Springbok, through the provision of
personal protective equipment (PPE) and two High Flow Oxygen machines, to assist with COVID- 19
relief as well as after the pandemic.
“Doctors in South Africa and across the world are seeing positive outcomes from using high-flow
nasal oxygen (HFNO), a non-invasive oxygen therapy, instead of mechanical ventilation. They say
they are now using HFNO for many patients who would have been intubated in the early days of the
epidemic, which is why we are funding this equipment,” stated Cheryl Persensie, Economic
Development Manager at Kangnas Wind Farm.
The added advantage to the HFNO is that it can be used not only in a high-care unit but also in
normal and acute beds and will be used for a range of treatments post-COVID.
This equipment, in addition to full PPE gear, which include 180 scrub suits, 4000 disposable aprons
and 1200 examination gloves has been funded by the Wind Farm, to help the Dr Van Niekerk
HospitalinSpringbok,toimprovehealthservicesprovidedtothelocalcommunity.
Dr. Grootboom, CEO of Dr Van Niekerk Hospital in Springbok, said The nurses, doctors and
management of Dr Van Niekerk Hospital would like to express gratitude to Kangnas Wind Farm for
the generous donation, which will strengthen our fight against the scourge of the coronavirus.”
