Why the rand is weak(ish), despite near-record consumer confidence

Consumer confidence in South Africa – across all income and population groups – touched an all-time high in the first quarter of 2018.

The rand, however, fell by around 2% to a three month low last week as it bore the brunt of a resurgent US dollar.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed FNB economist Mamello Matikinca.
