Zimbabwe’s Stanbic Bank has donated to six major health institutions in serious need of personal protective equipment around the country in support of the coronavirus pandemic fight.
The bank donated US$200 000 worth of PPEs to hospitals in the country. The donations included five ventilators, 32 500 suits, masks, face shields and goggles, 2 400 PCR testing kits, 3 000 sanitizers for frontline workers to St Anne’s and Wilkins Hospitals in Harare.
Other hospitals that received the donations were Gweru Provincial Hospital, Thorngroove Hospital in Bulawayo, Masvingo General Hospital and Mutare Infectious Diseases Hospital. All these hospitals were grateful to receive from Stanbic.
The leading financial services institution is also in the process of drilling boreholes in Cowdry Park, Bulawayo and Glen Norah C in Harare. This is after noticing that water shortages in the country are increasing and this may increase the rate of infections in the country.
According to Stanbic Bank non-executive director Nellie Tiyago, the institution is committed to playing a pivotal role in the fight against the pandemic and they recognise the importance of healthcare workers in this battle.
“There are many frontline workers and we appreciate their efforts. Stanbic Bank is here to support the medical frontliners, who can in no way escape or avoid this war as they are the backbone of the survival of our people even when we are not in times of crisis,” said Tiyago.
Tiyago further commented that Stanbic’s contribution to the fight against the pandemic has extended beyond the purchase of PPEs and other equipment through the provision of US$2.8 million credit and allocation of foreign currency to its clients in the medical industry to acquire the required health care items.
