Thorngrove Hospital receives donations.

The Zimbabwe cricket club has donated protective gear to the Thorngrove Infectious Disease Hospital in Bulawayo during the coronavirus national lockdown pandemic period.

The Thorngrove Infectious Disease Hospital was made a coronavirus isolation centre to accommodate the virus patients. This has been a difficult situation to navigate for Zimbabwe, a country which has been drowning economically even before the pandemic hit.

The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) committed themselves to the Hospital on Tuesday where they made the donation at a ceremony held at the Large City Hall. The donations included 20 litres of hand sanitizers, portable hand canisters as well as paracetamol syrup.

After the Tuskers general manager Nicholas Singo donated the items, he mentioned that the ZC saw it fit to offer their hand at this crucial time as they knew how Covid-19 had brought a lot of suffering in people’s lives.

“We are facing a global health crisis that is killing people, spreading human suffering and upending people’s lives. With this in mind, Zimbabwe Cricket would like to make a small donation of medicinal essentials to Thorngrove Infectious Disease Hospital, which has been designated as a Covid-19 isolation centre,’’ Singo said.

The donation was thanked by Solomon Mguni the Bulawayo mayor. Mguni expressed his gratitude to the ZC and said the contribution would surely play a huge part in the fight against the deadly pandemic in the city.

“May I also take this opportunity to appreciate the donations from Zimbabwe Cricket who have noted that the sporting community is also key in the fight against Covid-19. The donation is also inclusive of tablets that will be key in attending to other diseases other than Covid-19 and also ensure that the already burdened community has access to expensive medication,’’ Mguni said.

Thorngrove was also fortunate enough to receive critical items for the Hospital from the Stanbic Bank. Mealie meal was also donated to the isolation centre by the Bulawayo Arts Culture and Heritage Endowment Fund and the Hospital has not stopped being grateful.
