Local primary school receives two cricket pitches

The unpredictable bounce on the Bosmont Primary School’s unsporting cricket surface has been disadvantageous to the young players. PPC and Protea batsman Temba Bavuma, gathered at Bosmont Primary School to hand over the two cricket pitches today. Celebrated by parents, learners and the community, the cricket pitch handover forms part of PPC’s commitment to empowering communities to experience a better quality of life.

Despite the school’s success in mini cricket, Bosmont Primary School had one cricket pitch with no nets or carpets. Following an inspection of the ground, PPC made the decision to provide the school with a brand new cricket pitch that would accommodate the school’s growing needs, while being aligned to best practice in cricket talent development.

“PPC has continued to work with the Temba Bavuma Foundation to celebrate his contribution to sport and education as part of our committement to provide improved access to cricket in previously disadvantaged communities,” explains Njombo Lekula, Managing Director PPC RSA. “With a second 22m hardball cricket pitch being built, we envision the learners’ progression from mini cricket to hardball cricket as being a key enabler of their cricket ambitions.”

“Our children have big sporting ambitions that we, as a school, are keen to enable. The challenges we have experienced in our 54 year journey have prevented us from fully addressing these needs. Thanks to PPC and the Temba Bavuma Foundation, we continue to provide quality education in our Jubilee celebrations. We have seen interest in cricket double! Our learners can see that we believe in them, and are keen to see them progress and gain confidence in the sport. With the use of the new cricket pitches the self-confidence of our girls’ team has grown, showing the impact and promise the sport brings to all,” says Mrs Ryan, Principal at Bosmont Primary School.
