AU Commission Chairperson welcomes ceasefire agreement in Libya

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the acceptance by the parties in Libya of a ceasefire on 12 January 2020.

The Chairperson called on the parties to ensure safe corridors for the provision of humanitarian assistance wherever it is needed in the country.

The Chairperson further called on all stakeholders to redouble their efforts towards inclusive dialogue for a political solution.

The Chairperson looks forward to the convening of the AU High Committee on Libya, under the leadership of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, on 25 January 2020 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, as part of the AU’s continued commitment, alongside national, regional and international stakeholders, to work towards a final and permanent settlement to the Libyan conflict.
