Canadian woman converts shipping containers into beautiful Eco-friendly homes

Claudie Dubreuil started her career as a General Contractor who was building condo’s and traditional wooden townhouses but unfortunately, building these types of houses did not provide her with enough creativity so when it came to the design of her house, she chose an unconventional option.

Dubreuil decided to design a home based on metal sea containers. She encountered a lot of obstacles during the process of building her home. For example, it was very difficult to find an engineer who had the resources and capabilities to cut through the sea containers and to install doors and windows in them. She was rejected by four different engineers before finding one that was willing to work with her.

The container house started out as 3 large metallic containers which Dubreuil ordered from an engineering firm and were delivered within two weeks. She managed to squeeze two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen and rooftop terrace into three cargo containers and still had extra space.

The real estate developer currently owns Collections Dubreuil and prides herself on the use of raw materials, eco- friendly material and sustainable building.
