Social-TV Media and Storytelling Workshop gets the impact industry talking

Impact News-Leader, Social -TV hosted its first workshop powered by Fybotech in Midrand earlier this month. The workshop was a unique opportunity, bringing together journalists, corporates and experts from different fields to discuss the media landscape and the importance of meaningful strategic communication for corporate storytelling.  Guests were welcomed by The CEO of Fybotech Joran Molapo and Chief Editor, Viwe Tyolwana who was the facilitator of the event.

Corporates such as Fybotech, Dlala Nje and Khulisa Social Solutions had the opportunity to talk about their organizations and how storytelling has made a difference in their organizations.

The programme included Portia Kobue, who is the Head of News at Kaya FM. She spoke about framing stories in a correct manner and explained that journalist’s job is to produce stories to generate public interest. She was followed by Lesley Ann, who is the Managing Director of Khulisa Social Solutions who spoke about the healing Power of Storytelling. Founder of Dlala Nje, Nicholas Bauer suggested that “corporates should put together their own team of journalists who would report on stories”

The panel was also joined by Lawyer and Change Activist, Charmaine Soobramoney, who stressed the importance of using the right words to tell your story. Smart Communication and development manager, Karen du Randt spoke about how smart technology has had a positive impact on the education sector especially for teachers in the classrooms. In between the talks were Q & A sessions, where the audience also got a chance to engage with the speakers of the day.

One of the main aims of this workshop was to help participants to discover the power of storytelling as a rich way to communicate, share, and engage in corporate social responsibility space. In conclusion to the workshop, Media Specialist,  Samm Marshall administered a 30-minute Media Training Session sharing essential storytelling tools and skills to the guests.

To thank participants who attended the workshop, Social-TV ran a competition where two lucky winners stood a chance to win a podcast worth the value of R20 000 and a video content package worth R25 000.

Social-TV would like to thank all participants for their attendance and their contribution to a successful workshop. The news platform is looking forward to seeing you again at our next workshop in February.
