SPARKS Schools has implemented a social-emotional learning curriculum for their Foundation Phase learners in the form of a TOOLBOX. The TOOLBOX is comprised of 12 tools that, when used effectively, will teach children “valuable personal skills and strategies for self-awareness, self-management, and relationship-building” says Stacey Brewer, CEO of SPARK Schools.
The 12 tools found in the TOOLBOX are: Taking Time, Breathing, Personal Space, Quiet/Safe Place, Courage, Listening, Please and Thank You, Patience, Garbage Can, Empathy, Apology and Forgiveness, and Using Our Words.
Brewer says that together, the tools of the TOOLBOX develop children that value Service, Persistence, Achievement, Responsibility, and Kindness. She continues, “Companies want soft skills- so we must focus on teaching them”.
