The lives of more than 2500 school children were changed at the Blair Atholl Primary Farm School in Lanseria and the Zimasa Primary School in Langa, Cape Town on Thursday through The SA Medical and Education Foundation’s Mandela Day Fun-day.
SAME Foundation hosted a fun-day to celebrate Mandela Day in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. Like-minded organisations came out in numbers to celebrate the day by giving both schools a much-needed fresh new facelift and giving all 2500 kids lunch packs, toys, notebooks and sports equipment.
While the adults rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty, a new sense of hope and exuberance could be seen on the faces of the children as they were enjoying a fun-day getting their faces painted, winning trophies and awards, participating in sports, enjoying the jumping castles and dancing up a storm!
At Blair Atholl Primary Farm School, the entire school got painted to create an aesthetically pleasing environment for over 1000 learners and teachers. At Zimasa Primary School the Grade R building, three classrooms and the staffroom were painted and given a brand-new facelift. This was a Mandela Day that truly encapsulated everything that it should. A day where everyone came together as a community to improve lives and enjoy themselves while doing it.
Living up to the words of Nelson Mandela; History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children, SAME Foundation want to continue making a difference and moving beyond the 67 minutes
