Vice President engages DMMU on food relief

Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has been working hard to fight off hunger in Zambia. DMMU is on a mission to change the strategy in the distribution of relief support to areas which were affected by the recent floods.

With the help of the vice President, DMMU will increase food relief quantities to assist the victims of the flooded areas. Chilubi has been stated as one of the most affected places and much attention will be given to the Island.

“I will urge DMMU to quicken the process and improve the quantities of food relief until you are food secure, I will sit down with the Minister in my office to see if we can change the strategy of delivery relief to our people so that we don’t have anyone dying of hunger,” he stressed.

During the reign of the late President Michael Sata, he formed the Patriotic Front party with the vision of improving the wellbeing of vulnerable people especially in areas where chiefs are the custodians.

”All came from the village, all the Ministers, MPs, DCs and everyone else and you people our royal highness you take care of our needs, this is why we will work closely with you to ensure that development is taken to the people in your chiefdoms in order to improve their lives,” said the Vice President.

The Vice President did not only show commitment in distributing food but also promised to construct more schools, health facilities and roads among other things.

The Vice President also appealed to President Lungu to engage DMMU on the food distribution exercise, adding that people are starving and are in need of food assistance.
