The Vision2030 summit was held at Emperors Palace from the 20-21st of November 2019. Ralf Fletcher, Â CEO Top Media, welcomed the guests and briefly explained why Vision2030 was formalized. âThe summit provides a platform for debate, discussion and networking to achieve better results in the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) â.
Prudence Mabitsela kicked off the summit by moderating sessions aimed at context setting and unpacking the key elements of the NDP. This yearâs summit focused on discussing the importance of policy certainty across different sectors. âWe have good policies but we do not implement them. South Africa hosts numerous summits throughout the year but we need on hosting summits which focus on implementationâ said Politician and Attorney, Dr. Mathews Phosa.
The speakers for Day One of the conference discussed the importance of achieving better results in the implementation of the nationâs plan and concluded the day with the Vision2030 Awards and National Business Awards presented by Topco Media to honor performing companies. Topco Media offers a variety of information-based communication tools aimed at developing the public-private partnerships, and other business relationships needed to facilitate local economic growth.
Furthermore, the summit consisted of three simultaneous breakaway sessions, where the attendees asked relevant questions about alternative infrastructure financing for state-owned companies hosted by ABSA, the 2nd session topic focused on discussing the NHI scheme and what would make it work hosted by Mylan and the third session which focused on the 4th Industrial Revolution distribution services hosted by Sentech.
Day Two of the conference consisted of robust panel discussions concentrated on achieving public health impact through the Public-Private Partnership model, topics ranged from the National Health Insurance financing model, achieving renewable energy and providing access to sufficient safe water and hygienic sanitation. The two-day conference was sponsored by Absa, Mylan, and Sentech in conjunction with Topco Media.
Jack van der Mere, CEO of Gautrain said the âGovernment has to put money into projects and these projects need to go through the appropriate stagesâ.
The exhibition gave companies a chance to interact with attendees and this yearâs exhibitors included Sea Harvest, Umngeni Water, and Nersa. According to Dr Kefiloe, Deputy Secretary from the National Planning Commission âThe NDP is for all of us, we need to work together, we all need to contribute to ensure improvement and progressâ.
