Internet company, Xiaomi together has donated medical supplies to provisioned communities across South Africa to curb the spread of Coronavirus. The donation included over 1 million masks, thermometers, protective gowns and ventilators.
“In this humanitarian crisis that concerns the shared future of our humanity, itâs essential that we all work together,” said Shou Zi Chew, President of International, Xiaomi.
Xiaomiâs official distribution partner, Mobile in Africa joined forces with The Angel Network, Vula Amehlo and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform to make sure that the medical supplies were allocated accordingly.
The masks were distributed to Banakekeleni Orphanage in Marlboro, Thuthuzela Orphanage in Kelvin, Phronesis ECD in Kya Sands, Hearts of Hope Orphanage in Wendywood, Vuka Skhokho in Alexandra and three schools in Soweto through Loving classroom, to mention a few.
âWhen we first arrived in South Africa, the public welcomed us with passion and warmth. We are honoured to be able to return that gesture and offer our contribution for the benefit of South Africaâs communities,â said Zi Chew.
Xiaomi Corporation was founded in April 2010 and continues to create quality products for consumers. The Chinese electronics company is currently the worldâs fourth-largest smartphone brand and has established the worldâs leading consumer IoT platform, with 252 million smart devices connected to its platform.
Additionally, they have also donated medical supplies in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Turkey, South Korea and Japan.
“With so many countries and regions across the world struggling to get access to the appropriate protection to treat COVID-19 patients without putting themselves at risk, we felt alleviating this could be one way in which we play our part,” explained Shou Zi Chew, President of International, Xiaomi.
