Uber driver-partners battle it out on the soccer field

This year Uber hosted soccer tournaments across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ghana. These tournaments were arranged especially for driver-partners who use the Uber app, for Uber to show love and appreciation to the hardworking driver-partners.

In South Africa, the tournaments took place in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth . Both male and female driver-partners took part in the soccer tournament as well as Uber employees. Driver-partners turned out in numbers, looking to catch a great game on the field and to take some time off the road. Teams comprised of seven players each, battling it out on the field to be crowned the Sub-Saharan Africa Soccer Tournament champions.

Johann Mostert, a driver-partner from Cape Town who took part in the tournament said that he enjoyed having a fun day out interacting with other driver-partners as he is always on the road. Another driver-partner that participated was Anushka Govender from Johannesburg , who explains that she enjoys playing soccer and that she hardly gets a chance to play so this was the perfect way to spend her afternoon. At the end of the tournament the best playing teams and driver-partners were awarded at the prize giving.

Ross Adami, Uber Campaign and Brand Manager Sub Saharan Africa says, “Drivers are our partners and they are the engine behind Uber – we’re proud to work with them across SSA. We love to engage with driver-partners at every chance we get and this soccer tournament was a great opportunity to do just that.”
