Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation Soccer Tournament 2023 Concludes with Thrilling Finals

The Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation Soccer Tournament 2023, which kicked off on June 24th, reached an exciting climax on July 16th at the Kgotso Sports grounds in Phiri, Soweto. The tournament, organised by the renowned Siphiwe Tshabalala, brought together over 1800 talented players from across the country, competing for championship titles in various age groups.

In the Under 20 category, KFC emerged as the winning force, with their coach, Karabo Mkhabela, being named the Coach of the Tournament. The top scorers of the tournament were Yugun Frederick’s from KVK Academy and Siyanqoba Moleane from KFC, both netting an impressive five goals each. Teboho Ramokapela from FC Basil was awarded the Player of the Tournament title for his impressive skills and significant contribution to his team’s success. The outstanding goalkeeping performance displayed by Oarabile Pinto from FC Basil earned him the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

The Ladies’ division showcased fierce competition, with Thunderstorm Ladies and Orlando Ladies battling it out in the finals, but after a tough penalty shootout, Orlando Ladies emerged victorious in a 4-3 win. Peter Mafa, the Thunderstorm Ladiesā€™ coach, was honoured as Coach of the Tournament. Thuli Ndaba from Thunderstorm Ladies was named Player of the Tournament, displaying exceptional talent that played a vital role in her team’s achievements. Orlando Ladies’ Nonhlanhla Muhaleā€™s goalkeeping prowess was celebrated with the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

The Under 17 category also saw outstanding play from different teams, with The Citizensā€™ team managing to win three accolades for their remarkable performance: Masiya Siyabonga won Goalkeeper of the Tournament, Thabang Sebeko emerged as the Top Goal Scorer and Amo Motloung secured the Coach of the Tournament title. Reamogetswe Mpele from Soweto Shining Stars was hailed as the Player of the Tournament, impressing the crowd with his fancy footwork.

In the Under 15 division, the talented Soweto Shining Stars under the guidance of Coach Lesego Reginald Lethoko, were on top form throughout the tournament, and it was no surprise when they walked away champions. Their goalkeeper, Rendani Sedikiā€™s excellent blocking and deflecting skills won him Goalkeeper of the Tournament while Ntokozo Hlophe from Soweto Shining Stars shone as the Top Scorer. The Player of the Tournament title was awarded to Kutlwano Noka from Phiri Winter Roses for her outstanding overall contribution.
