Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms have funded the renovations and upgrade of the Loeriesfontein municipal sports & recreation facilities.
“Sport is an important aspect of any community, bringing not only the participants together, but their
families and the broader community too, including local schools. Furthermore, research shows that,
sports is shown to have extensive social benefits,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development
Manager.
Rugby and soccer remain the most popular sports in this town as well as in the region, which is why
the facilities include both rugby and soccer equipment installation, in addition to the electrical supply
upgrade to the field and sports hall. To extend the sports days into evening events, suitable lighting has
been installed, as well as a pump station installation and palisade fencing. Natural grass has also been
planted and an irrigation system that makes use of recycled water has been installed, to reduce stress
on the town’s water supply.
Councillor Jacques Klaaste commented on the impact of this on the community of Loeriesfontein,
te raak by sport aktiwiteite”.
“We hope to get more school children and youth involved in community sporting activities, so that the
younger generations can grow up with the associated benefits. Considering that international
rugby-star WP Nel was born in Loeriesfontein, the town has the potential to produce sporting
champions,” concluded Fredericks.
