In the spirit of helping those who are in need, Formula 1 Driver ,Lewis Hamilton has pledged $500,000 to charity after hearing about the devastation caused by the Australian bushfires. It has been reported that over 10 million hectares of Australian land have been burnt as a result of the wildfires that have swept across the country.
Hamilton said via his social media channels that he has made his own significant contribution to help all those affected by the disaster.“It breaks my heart to see the devastation caused by the Australian bushfires are causing to people and animals across the country,” said Hamilton on Twitter.
Formula 1 Driver, Aussie Daniel Ricciardo was also touched by the devastation of the bushfires and also made personal donations to charity. He plans to put a signed race suit up for auction after the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in May 2020.
Given the severity and scale of the wildfires, there is concern over whether the season opener in Melbourne will go ahead in March. However, race organizers are confident that the race weekend will go ahead unless there is a decline in the air quality surrounding the Albert Park circuit.
