Representatives from Blue Ribbon were recently in Khayelitsha handing out hampers and certificates of recognition to three amazing women as part of their Kasi’Pride campaign.
These women have been identified and acknowledged for living their lives with others in mind and being the embodiment of goodwill and generosity. Nolubabalo Ndita owns Ithemba, a community old age home in her own house caring for 12 elderly folks. Nokuzola Zamxaka runs a soup kitchen for people in Site B, ensuring those without jobs and an income at least have a wholesome meal to eat. Finally, Nomsa Gxotiwe manages the Zanokhanyo Children’s Home in Khayelitsha, taking kids off the street and helping them to excel. One of her children just graduated from the University of Western Cape, with a Psychology degree.
The Kasi’Pride campaign kicked off in February 2022, when Blue Ribbon decided to celebrate the amazing community activism seen during the lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions. During these unprecedented times, community members like Nomsa, Nolubabalo, and Nokuzola came out in force, working behind the scenes to feed, protect, support, and serve others in their community, but their generous efforts often went unnoticed.
As part of the campaign, residents in various townships in Cape Town, including Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Phillipi, Klapmuts and Mfuleni were encouraged to call into their local radio stations and nominate their Kasi heroes – people who do exemplary things every day and make a difference to everyone. Nomsa, Nolubabalo, and Nokuzola are all from Khayelitsha and were each nominated on more than one occasion. As a result, Blue Ribbon has donated to each of their initiatives and awarded them with a certificate of recognition.
