Classy, an online and mobile fundraising platform, reports that nonprofits are on track to raise more than $900 million on its platform in 2020, a record.

In the leadup to the biggest giving day of the year, December 31, the platform had processed more than $860 million in donations from nearly 4.4 million donors making over 9.2 million donations. In terms of monthly totals, April saw the largest year-over-year growth in giving on the platform, while December saw the highest total — with $37.9 million raised during the annual GivingTuesday event on December 1.

According to Classy, the issue areas attracting the most giving in 2020 were human services, health, public/societal benefit, international/foreign affairs, and education, with giving in support of public/societal benefit seeing the highest year-over-year growth. Classy also reported an increase in recurring donations, with more than 265,000 new recurring donations activated during the year, and an uptick in donations generated from peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns.

“In the most challenging of times, Americans are answering the call to help each other and our society. We are humbled and inspired by the way our nonprofit community has exemplified this in 2020,” said Classy co-founder and CEO Scot Chisholm. “We’ve seen incredible resilience from our nonprofit customers who are finding new ways to fundraise in an online world to continue to serve their communities.”
