Museum of Illusions now open in Johannesburg

The city of gold has added another diamond to its stellar constellation of unmissable attractions. The Museum of Illusions just opened its doors in the vibrant Rosebank node, becoming the 53rd Museum of Illusions in the world, joining the likes of Dubai, Chicago, New York, Paris, Istanbul, Milan, Shanghai, Cairo, Kuala Lumpur and Dallas who are all home to the remarkable experience. The Museum of Illusions Johannesburg is located just above Hamleys, across the bridge from Spur, and next door to EGG.

The concept first launched in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015 and soon became a global phenomenon with over 12 million people having visited the museums to date, and it is easy to see why. No two museums are the same, with each facility taking visitors on a memorable sensory journey through mind bending installations that leverage art, science, maths and psychology in a unique way.

And, while it’s “stand back, no touching and no photographs” at most museums around the world, at the Museum of Illusions Johannesburg, it’s the complete opposite. Visitors are encouraged to interact and experiment with the extraordinary exhibits that use optical illusions, visual tricks, and hands-on interactive displays to create a playful environment, and capture their memories in photos and videos forever. When nothing is ever quite as it seems, it’s nice to take a second look, or to post it on Tiktok!

As a champion of the “edutainment concept,” the Museum of Illusions fuses fun and entertainment with education and learning. Whether you’re up for a one-of-a-kind adventure, an enthralling family excursion, an extraordinary date night, a day out with your bestie, the perfect spot to indulge your social media content creation dreams or simply looking to broaden your knowledge and perspectives, this spot will help you do that and more.

The Museum of Illusions Johannesburg is now open 7 days a week, from Monday to Thursday from 9am – 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 9am – 10pm and Sundays and Public Holidays from 9am – 8pm. There is also a celebration party room for those who would like to bring a group for a special occasion, such as birthdays, company team builds, educational school trips or other events.

Tickets may be purchased online or at the door, although booking in advance is advised.
