Jozihub in partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs hosted the last Women in Tech Breakfast on the 29th of November 2019. Jozihub is a co-creation space in Milpark, Johannesburg dedicated to creating sustainable change in Africa. The company has been operating for a few years and hosts different events & workshops. Furthermore, they also offer working space for different companies, link communities on social media, encourage women empowerment and support the AIDA Academy.
Jozi hub is currently supporting young female students who are completing a coding course from AIDA. Neelke Sadler, Data Scientist from Turn.io shared her journey with the audience and keys to understanding coding. “Keep on learning new things and don’t compare yourself to other coders. I learned how to code on the job and I constantly asked friends to assist, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Dieno Motingoe, a Student at AIDA says that the coding course has introduced her to other facets of technology. Her Lecturer, Andrea Hayes added that “This course allows diversity by introducing different races to advanced technology. The young women started the Code Course in August 2019 to be completed n March 2020, thereafter they will be placed into internships. Thando Selanto, Head of PR & Marketing Division from Memeza Community spoke about the power of technology and introduced tools that can be used by vulnerable communities in the event of an emergency. “Moving into 2020, Jozihub will be launching new programmes, one of these programmes will be called Boost Women and will focus on uplifting women said Sam Manclark, Jozihub Team Leader.
