In response to the urgent cholera crisis in Hammanskraal, MTN SA has partnered with the Gift of the Givers to provide essential support to the affected community. As part of this rapid response initiative, MTN, through MTN SA Foundation, has donated R100Â 000 worth of water. Â
Additionally, 100 distressed community members affected by the outbreak received food parcels valued at R70 000 –Â a local NGO helped in identifying the most vulnerable families and individuals.Â
Speaking at the handover yesterday, Jacqui O’Sullivan, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at MTN South Africa, expressed MTN’s dedication to alleviating the crisis. âIn times of crisis those most affected need immediate help from trained people on the ground, who can quickly offer support and life-saving essentials. This is what Gift of the Givers does best and we are proud to partner with this extraordinary organisation. Itâs deeply distressing for the people of Hammanskraal to be facing a threat of this nature and we hope MTNâs intervention of water, food and sanitation products will bring some relief to those who need it most,â said O’Sullivan.Â
Emphasising this commitment, Arthur Mukhuvha, General Manager of the MTN SA Foundation said: âWe are privileged to have the means to bring about meaningful and measurable change in disadvantaged communities across South Africa. Part of this is creating opportunities for success in education and life, ensuring communities are future-readyâ.Â
âThe wellbeing of any community is inextricably linked to the health of its people. Without good health, people are unable to actively contribute to the socio-economic growth of their communities and of society at large. We will work diligently alongside our partners to ensure this outbreak doesnât hamper the well-being of the people of Hammanskraal more than it already hasâ, continues Mukhuvha.Â
