MOWCS Commemorates World Food Day

The 16 of October is a date that was set by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations as World Food Day. MOWCS, as one of the organisations that have food security as its pillar, always commemorates World Food Day. This year, the organisation will be hosting a seminar on the 19 of October 2023 and 27th October 2023 in Mossel Bay and Bloemfontein respectively. at one of their production farms in Bloemfontein, Free State.

The purpose of the conference is to launch the backyard project where more than 200 beneficiaries will be trained in starting up their own backyard gardens, donated with a start-up pack that include (Seedlings, compost, garden tools and a manual). It is the organisationsā€™ objective to ensure that every household that comes from underprivileged areas are empowered to grow their own food.

This year meals on wheels are also partnering with Mossel Bay Municipality and Dept of Correctional Services to assist on the reintegration of ex-offenders back into the community. There MOWCS will also be enrolling 100 ex-offenders into skills that will help them generate income and not fall back to crime.

MOWCS is committed to community services, ensuring that beneficiaries from poor communities are developed and are independent is a course we are committed to as an organisation. So many crimes that are committed are very much linked to poverty, therefore we want to take over from correctional services and ensure that the therapeutic environment that was created inside continues through our centres of excellent and skills development programs.

We are ever so grateful to the corporates that always join us in making the impact in our communities, without their donations and contribution, we would not be able to make the difference. Thank you to Santam, Checkers, PepsiCo and Wabtec for partnering with us in this initiative.

We are calling on more corporate, organisation, and individual to start investing in skills development to reduce the high level of unemployment and assist MOWCS to shorten the queues of people dependent on a plate of food that MOWCS provides daily, to witness more empowered and self-sustained communities in South Africa.
