NPOs Unite to Bring Hope and Support to Capricorn Vrygrond Community

In a remarkable display of unity and compassion, several non-profit organizations (NPOs) in the Western Cape joined forces for a day of impact and solidarity in the community of Capricorn Vrygrond, Muizenberg, Western Cape.

Spearheaded by Viva con Agua South Africa, an NGO dedicated to ensuring access to clean drinking water and basic sanitary care, the annual event aims to provide vital support to the community in celebration of World Water Day.

The Nina Manzi Activation Event by Viva con Agua SA offered a range of essential services to the residents of Capricorn Vrygrond. Among these services, was the Nina Manzi WASH Bus that provided homeless individuals, struggling guardians and 39 kids with the opportunity to take hot showers, addressing the critical need for basic sanitation among those who lack access to such facilities.

The collaboration with partner organisations such as Butterfly Art Project, U-Turn, Cape Medics, and the Vrygrond Community Development Trust showed a collective commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the community.

Butterfly Art Project provided skills development and supervision for children, ensuring their safety during the event. U-Turn assisted with access control and provided social care services, while Cape Medics offered general medical checks and referrals for further medical assistance. The Vrygrond Community Development Trust prepared nutritious meals and guided individuals to receive food parcels after the services.

“We are honoured to have stood alongside our partner organisations and support the Capricorn Vrygrond community on World Water Day,” said Phumelele Muthali, Spokesperson at Viva con Agua South Africa. “This event is a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion, and we hope to make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.”

One of the individuals who used the Nina Manzi services at the event shared that, ā€œThe serviceā€¦it restores dignity to me in many ways. Not only with friends and family, but it also gives me an opportunity, that self-courage and hope to go out and better myself. When Iā€™m nice and clean and I feel fresh I can go to interviews, I can go see people, I can mingle again with people that have advantages that I donā€™t have.ā€
