Get skilled on the art of winning tenders at the APMP Conference

Tendering is big business and, if done correctly, can stimulate the South African economy, sustain and grow local businesses. The million Rand question is ‘can a start-up enterprise win a tender?’ The simple answer is yes, start-up enterprises can also win tenders if fully equipped.

As part of equipping bidding professionals, the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) will host their 10th annual conference themed Survival of the Fittest, on the 25th of July at Altron Conference Centre.

The conference will equip bid professionals on the latest, action-based insights from leading minds in the bid, proposal and business development space.

In the tender process, it is essential that an enterprise be knowledgeable of the business they want to bid for. In fact, the more knowledge the enterprise has of its supply, the better its odds are of being awarded a tender. The conference will also provide knowledge to business about the tender process and how to complete a tender correctly and be successful.

The conference is also an opportunity to meet like-minded people and share experiences, challenges as well as collaborate to create long-term solutions.

With more than 660 government departments issuing requests for proposals throughout the year, the tender process can be busy, complicated and open to abuse. It is also a sector that is most often misunderstood, with many cries of foul play.

Almost three-quarters of South African small and medium enterprises (SMMEs) do not do business with the government at any level. According to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA)’s 2016 SMME Insight Report, 90% of the SMEs surveyed conducted less than 10% of their business with government at any level. Some 72% do not deal with government at all.

It is a well-known fact, that the rate of economic growth in South Africa is not what it needs to be. The current rate is not nearly enough to reduce the high rate of unemployment in South Africa. Small and medium business can turn this entire statement around.

The Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) was formed in 1989 and is the worldwide authority for professionals dedicated to the process of winning business through proposals, bids, tenders and presentations. APMP promotes the professional growth of its members by advancing the arts, sciences and technologies of winning business.
